Furious (2006/2011)

for Solo Piano

Piano solo work “Furious” was revised and expanded from an earlier piano work of mine. The revision was intended to become a collaborated work with Samford dance department, for its 2012 spring dance concert, four performances scheduled on March 29 – April 1, 2012.

This composition begins with a series of low, dark, and heavy sounds. This abundant repeating gesture unfolds the rapid and explosive journey of this piece. The motivic development of this repeating gesture, and later-introduced sonorities of tritone and minor second are the foundation of this five-minute work. The intensity of this composition is built upon exaggeration the excessively dark dissonances and fast running notes.
