No. 4 A Train Whistle
丟丟銅仔 (2011)
for violoncello & piano
From Tunes Heard in My Childhood
A Train Whistle portrays a moving steam train crossing mountains in the old time. The unique steam whistle sounds come closer and closer to the
mountain top that represent the energetic and positive motivation along our life journey. The repetition of the rhythmic motive (one eighth note plus two sixteenth notes) throughout the entire
piece was an attempt to imitate a train’s movement. The exciting rhythms and repetitive melodies at the end of the piece open up the next millstone of victory.
This piece was composed and premiered with the financial support from Taiwan National Culture and Arts Foundation.
